Your child plays sport: is he or she properly insured?

Sport and physical activity are essential to children's development, contributing to their well-being in many ways: physically, emotionally, socially, cognitively and morally. However, accidents, such as falls and injuries, are never far away. In the event of an injury at school, in a club or during a competition, do you know which insurance will cover the costs?

There are three types of insurance to protect you:

Civil liability insurance

This insurance covers damage caused by a third party (the school, the club, a friend, etc.). To be covered, there must be damage, a fault and a direct link between the two. It is the liable organisation's liability insurance that will pay for the necessary medical expenses and compensation.

Characteristics:

  • In the event of proven liability

  • Compensation for the loss suffered

Group accident insurance

Clubs and competition organisers often take out group accident insurance for their members. This covers injuries sustained by your child, even if he or she is the only one at fault. If the school does not have this insurance, consider taking out personal accident insurance, which will protect your child anywhere, anytime.

Features :

  • All accidents (excluding high-risk sports)

  • Compensation in the event of injury, disability or death

  • Cover for treatment and hospitalisation costs, plus additional cover (childcare, etc.)

Supplementary health insurance

Essential for all parents, this insurance covers medical expenses not covered by the social security system (CNS). In the event of injury at home, at school or on holiday, it covers consultations, hospitalisation, medical transport and more.

Features :

  • All accidents

  • Medical care and hospitalisation covered

For total protection: personal accident cover

This insurance, similar to group accident insurance, covers your child (or the whole family) in all circumstances, except for certain high-risk sports. It is particularly useful in the event of disability, and can cover costs such as chronic care, cosmetic surgery or home adaptations. In the event of death, it pays compensation to the family.

Features :

  • All accidents (except specific exclusions)

  • Compensation in the event of disability or death

  • Additional cover: assistance, medical care, childcare, domestic help, etc.

For optimum protection, don't hesitate to contact your insurance agent to choose the solution that's best for your family.
